Chia Seed Water and Its Health Benefits

If you’re looking to add some variety to your diet, try chia seeds! They’re easy to add to meals and since they don’t have any flavor, you can make them taste like your favorite food. Plus, these tiny seeds come packed with nutrients and fiber. There’s so much fiber that when you add water to chia seeds, they puff up and turn gelatinous.

One of the reasons dietitians and nutritionists love fiber is because it fills you up, by taking up more space in your stomach and intestines. Your body isn’t able to digest fiber, so you’re not absorbing extra calories. Unlike protein and fat, you’ll need to wait about 10-15 minutes to sense that feeling of “full”, but once you do, it does reduce your appetite.

There are a few ways to add more chia seeds to your diet. You can simply mix them with water and chug the cup of gooey seeds. They go down surprisingly easy. Transition Slowly

All that fiber is somewhat of a double-edged sword for certain people. If you’re not used to eating a lot of fiber, suddenly downing cups of chia seed water can cause abdominal pain, cramps, and constipation. It’s a better idea to slowly introduce chia seeds into your meals when you first start out. The idea is the same introducing your dog to a new dog food. Sudden changes mean frequent trips outside for a few days or a complete overhaul of your carpet and drapes.
