In just three minutes, ActivePure Technologies, LLC’s air purifying technology inactivated over 99.9% of highly concentrated airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus in an enclosed setting, below detectable levels. The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), one of the world’s leading biosafety testing labs, tested the ActivePure Technology® for the US military and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. William S. Lawrence, PhD, director of the Aerobiology Services Division at UTMB’s Galveston National Laboratory, remarked, “These results illustrate the efficiency of the technology in a laboratory setting.”

The technique, according to ActivePure Technologies, will be widely used to lower the amount of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the air and on hard surfaces in commercial, residential, and medical environments. For more than ten years, ActivePure Technology has been selling air purifiers in stores. It’s used in HVAC systems and in the company’s portable air purification units as the main technology. Due to the pandemic, ActivePure Technologies is seeing an extraordinary rise in demand from its distributors, selling around 500,000 ActivePure units annually across all brands and product lines.

ActivePure Technology enables us to go on the offensive against airborne coronavirus with real-time viral particle elimination, allowing us to reclaim the spaces that are dear to our hearts – the gyms, restaurants, diners, theaters, beauty salons, and barber shops,” said Joe Urso, Chairman and CEO of ActivePure Technologies, LLC. “Unlike traditional, passive filtration-based air purifiers, ActivePure starts working right away and requires no capture or exposure time. It swiftly and continually floods a room with virus-neutralizing particles, which instantly break viruses down into their constituent parts and leave them harmless.”

“”ActivePure surrounds a person with virus-inactivating air, which is especially crucial in a hospital situation,” Urso explained. It’s what I’d call Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in my mind.”

The Cleveland Clinic is testing ActivePure systems in its operating rooms over a two-year period to determine if they can reduce surgical site infections. “The Cleveland Clinic continuously adapts methods to guarantee we are providing the safest care for our patients,” said Daniel Sessler, M.D., chair of outcomes research.

“People need air they can trust in this dangerous pandemic,” Urso remarked.

The UTMB study took place at a Bio Safety Level (BSL)-3 and -4 laboratory, which studies the world’s most dangerous viruses, in late November 2020.

1 Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and military testing get nearly all BSL-4 analyses. BSL-4 facilities, according to the CDC, are “used to study agents that offer a high risk of life-threatening disease.” 2

According to FDA guidelines and processes, the tests were performed in triplicate. SARS-Cov-2 virus was sprayed at extraordinarily high concentrations (7+ logs, or over 10 million particles per milliliter) into a test chamber.

The viral concentration was decreased to less than 1.6 logs in 3 minutes using ActivePure Technology-based Aerus® Pure & Clean and Vollara® Air & Surface Pro devices, calibrated to their lowest level of only 29 cubic feet per minute of air movement. Because the lab could only quantify down to 1.6 logs, the true values could have been as high as 99.99 percent. 3 All other purifying technologies in the units were disabled or deleted, leaving only the ActivePure Technology.

According to Andy Eide, Vice President of Engineering at ActivePure®, “A successful offense, we feel, is the greatest defense. Going on the offensive and proactively neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 viruses is a highly effective strategy to reduce the amount of virus that reaches your mask or settles on surfaces you may come into contact with.” “With ActivePure, we make approximately 100 distinct items, addressing concerns in every imaginable location, from homes to businesses, hotel rooms, elevators, and even autos,” he continued.

The lab will issue a full report before the holidays, according to Urso.

He continued, “The ActivePure technology achieves massive reductions in three minutes, according to the November study, although shorter durations were not evaluated. We’ll now evaluate efficacy in just 30, 60, and 120 seconds to see if we can get similar or better effects faster. In the future, we’ll collaborate with the BSL-3 and 4 labs to examine more highly infectious viruses.”

ActivePure Technologies, LLC is a company based in the United States.

When ActivePure Technologies LLC, formerly known as Aerus Holdings LLC, was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2017 at a reception sponsored by SpaceX, it was recognized by the Space Foundation as the only surface and air-purification technology to effectively adapt and market technology originally developed for NASA to improve the quality of life for all humanity.

ActivePure is an unique scientific technique that accelerates the delivery of super-charged, sub-microscopic particles. Reactions involving ambient water and oxygen molecules, a proprietary matrix coating, and a specific wavelength of UVC light are used to form these particles. When the particles meet with viruses, germs, and pollutants in the air, they transform them into harmless elements very instantly.

Because of its demonstrated pathogen-killing effectiveness, the technology has been employed by HVAC installers and as portable devices for numerous years. Over one million ActivePure systems are in use today to protect front-line workers in hospitals like the Cleveland Clinic and government facilities like the Texas State Capitol, as well as in homes, restaurants, businesses, and other public spaces.

The FDA approved ActivePure technology, which is used in an Aerus Medical Guardian unit, as a Class II Medical Device in June for use in inhabited rooms to inactivate six diseases, including an RNA virus that is related to SARS-CoV-2.5. ActivePure has been shown to inactivate the COVID-19 virus on surfaces in previous studies. 6

Other well-known systems, such as HEPA, UV light, and MERV-13, are passive, slow, and fail to eradicate microorganisms. Many others are so deadly that no one, even dogs, is allowed in the room while they operate.
